A new airline is flying in the Maritimes after a four-week delay. East Coast Airways began service between Sydney, N.S., and Halifax Monday, after the airline originally said it would launch Nov. 1. Representatives from the airline flew into Charlottetown Tuesday to discuss the start of service out of that city. The airline now has approval from Transport Canada to offer service between Halifax and several communities in the Maritimes. Charlottetown Airport officials said they spoke briefly with Jason Hasson, president of operations for East Coast Airways, while he was on the Island. A conference call has been set up for Wednesday to discuss a flight schedule for Charlottetown. Airport officials were told the airline plans to start service out of Charlottetown the second week of December. The company is taking online booking for Charlottetown starting Dec. 6. The website says customers who are booked before service starts will be found "alternate means of air travel."Last Updated: Tuesday, November 30, 2010 | 2:00 PM AT
